Oranjeschool - A new Montessori-School
Ever since Maria Montessori made the basic ideas of her pedagogy public at the beginning of the 20th century, that it to support the curiosity and innate urge of children and adolescents to learn and to create a learning-promoting environment in which learning material is at hand and arouses the interest of the learners through sheer presence, Montessori pedagogy has mostly had a marginal, although in some circles very influential, existence in the shadow of conventional, authority-based teaching models. An example of its impact is the Dutch school system, which has adopted this pedagogy nationwide.
Even though there are numerous Montessori schools worldwide, there is no recognised form of architecture that would have implemented Maria Montessori's pedagogical principle convincingly and in a model-like manner. The student design is a contribution to the question of how the special way of learning and interaction between teachers and students, as well as between the students themselves, can be implemented in architecture in such a way that the building becomes a further stimulus for the playful and joyful acquisition of knowledge.
During an excursion to Holland, various school buildings will be visited.
